Starting in Ensemble Video version 4.8, a new player interface includes an Interactive Transcript for any video that has closed captions. This feature can be enabled for any Embed Code, permalink, or portal.
With the Interactive Transcript you can view the scrolling transcript while watching the video, with current captions highlighted as the video plays. You can also scroll through the transcript and click any word to play the video from that point. The Interactive Transcript also enables you to search for a word, and wherever the word appears in the transcript you can click to play the video from that point.
To use the Interactive Transcript feature, first ensure that the desired content has closed captions. Then, create a Permalink for the content or Playlist or publish to a Portal. The Interactive Transcript also works with Embedded Players and Embedded Playlists. To learn more about enabling the Interactive Transcript choose your publishing method below:
Embed Code
From the Embed configuration menu, enable the Interactive Transcript checkbox.
The embedded video player will now have a Transcript button.
The Transcript panel includes a number of features to improve the viewing and searching experience.
- Search: Type in the Search box to find specific words or phrases in the transcript.
- Language: Choose the language of the transcript.
- Link: Link/Unlink the Interactive Transcript and Closed Caption display in the player.
- Layout Options: Select the preferred viewing layout for the transcript (paragraph, list and block view).
- Download: Download a text file (.txt) of the transcript in the selected language.
- Interactive Transcript: Scroll and click on any of the captions to advance the video to that point in the timeline.
With Interactive Transcript enabled, the embedded video also has a button in the upper right-hand corner to pop out to a full version of the player.
Click on this player button, and the full player interface will load in a new tab. It has a small Search icon on the right hand side of the player.
Click the search icon to load the Interactive Transcript interface. You can view the transcript while viewing the video, and each caption will be highlighted in real time as the video plays.
You can scroll through and click on a word, and the video will seek and begin playback at that point. You can also search for any word and then start playback at any occurrence in the search result. There is also a link to download/save the transcript to your device
Permalink
From the Permalink configuration menu, enable the Interactive Transcript checkbox.
When you launch the permalink, the player will include a small Search icon on the right hand side of the player.

Portal
To enable Interactive Transcript for a Portal, go to the Admin->Institution->Portal area and choose Style from the Action menu for your portal.
At the bottom of Style settings check Interactive Transcript and then click Save at the top of the Style form.
The video player in the portal will now have a Transcript button.

Playlist
To create a Playlist with Interactive Transcript enabled:
Click on the Playlist Permalink button, and enable the Interactive Transcript checkbox:
Or click on the Embed Playlist button, then scroll down and in the Content Details section and check the Interactive Transcript checkbox:
